A Hand‑Crafted Églomisé Installation for a Private London Residence

For a private client in Knightsbridge, our studio created a fully bespoke verre églomisé powder room, transforming a compact space into a luminous interior wrapped entirely in hand‑painted and gilded mirror panels. This project highlights our commitment to traditional craftsmanship, combining pure silver leaf, moon gold gilded ornaments, and bevelled mirror églomisé to create a refined, Versailles‑inspired environment.

Design Inspired by 18th‑Century Neoclassical style using Acanthus leaf ornaments reimagined for a luxury églomisé interior

The design began with a study of 18th‑century Neoclassical acanthus‑leaf ornaments, typical symbols such as birds - egret and crane, ribbons and flowers.

To enhance the architectural feel of the room, we developed a panel layout that introduced rhythm across the walls. To enhance the jewel‑box feel, each mirror panel was finished with a beautiful 20mm bevel around the edges.

Hand‑Painting the Ornament on Glass

Our artists hand‑painted the acanthus ornament and bird motifs directly onto the reverse of the glass.

Gilding with 22ct Moon Gold

The painted ornament was then gilded using 22ct moon gold, chosen for its soft, warm‑toned glow. This precious metal gives the acanthus leaves, birds, and decorative elements a refined radiance that pairs beautifully with silver.

Applying Silver Leaf to Create the Mirror

Once the gilding was complete on the ornaments, the background was finished with pure silver leaf using the traditional water gilded verre églomisé technique. The hand‑applied silver creates a mirrored surface that feels both historic and contemporary.

Bespoke Gilded Rosettes: Moon‑Gold Petals and Crystal Centres

To complete the composition, we designed and hand‑made a set of bespoke rosettes for the panel corners. Each rosette features moon gold petals with a crystal center, adding a highlight that enhances the Versailles‑style aesthetic. These rosettes were crafted entirely from scratch in our studio, starting with a hand‑carved prototype that we moulded and cold‑cast, then refined through sanding, painting, and finally gilding to match the verre églomisé ornament perfectly.

A Powder Room Wrapped in Silver Églomisé, the Finished Installation

Once installed, the powder room becomes a glamorous infinity room. The combination of mirror églomisé, moon‑gold ornament, hand‑painted birds, bevelled edges, and silver‑leaf backgrounds creates depth far beyond the room’s physical dimensions. We also integrated a built‑in cabinet into the panel layout, ensuring the functional elements of the space remained seamless within the decorative scheme.

Celebration of Traditional Craftsmanship

This Knightsbridge powder room demonstrates how verre églomisé can elevate a residential interior. Every surface was designed, hand‑painted, gilded, and silvered in our workshop before being installed on site. The result is a space that feels rooted in historical decorative arts while tailored to a modern home.
