Antique Mirrors
Our mirrors are produced using genuine chemical silvering, not printed films or factory aging processes. This traditional method involves depositing real silver onto the back of the glass, followed by controlled oxidation and hand distressing. The result is a mirror with true depth, character, and a natural patina that cannot be replicated by modern shortcuts.
We offer antique mirror tiles, large panels, and custom shaped pieces. Each mirror is individually worked by hand, ensuring subtle variations, organic movement, and a unique visual identity.

Antiqued Finishes
We create a full spectrum of antique mirror finishes, from light and elegant distressing to bold, heavily aged surfaces. Our finishes can be tailored to complement classic interiors, luxury retail environments, hospitality projects, and private residences.
Because each mirror is bespoke, we can control tone, pattern, ageing density, and visual rhythm across large installations or feature walls.
Hand Painted and Silvered Glass Tiles
Bondar Studios also specialises in hand painted and chemically silvered glass tiles. These are not mass produced or digitally printed surfaces. Each tile is individually silvered, painted, and finished by hand, creating layered depth, artistic detail, and a bespoke surface that is unavailable from commercial manufacturers. This combination of traditional silvering and fine art painting allows us to create unique decorative glass installations, murals, and architectural surfaces that cannot be replicated elsewhere.

Bespoke Antiqued Mirror Effects
Below is a selection of our antique mirror samples showcasing the range of finishes available. We offer light to heavily distressed aged effects, as well as bespoke gradient and ombré mirrors where the silvering transitions into clear glass. We also produce distorted and textured mirror surfaces that introduce depth and movement to reflections, creating a refined architectural finish. All samples are hand made in our London studio and serve as references for fully bespoke commissions, with tone, ageing pattern, and layout tailored to each project.
Antique Mirror FAQ
What is an antique mirror?
An antique mirror is a real mirror finish made using traditional chemical silvering.
Real silver is mixed with chemicals and poured onto the back of the glass. The silver deposits onto the surface and creates the mirror layer. This mirror can then be aged by hand to create soft cloudiness, foxing, speckles, tarnished edges or heavier distressed effects.
It is a rare process today, with only a handful of artisans in the UK still practising traditional silvering. At Bondar Studios, we make our antique mirrors by hand in our London workshop, creating some of the finest bespoke antique mirror finishes for interiors worldwide.
What panel sizes can you make?
For our antique mirror finishes, our maximum panel size is usually around 2200mm x 1200mm.
Larger areas are normally split into multiple panels or tiles. This is often the best approach for feature walls, bars, joinery, lift interiors, fireplaces, hotels and restaurant interiors, as it makes the glass easier to handle, transport and install.
We can also work with smaller panels, standard tile sizes, bespoke layouts and decorative panel arrangements.
What glass thickness and edge finishes do you use?
We usually use 4mm to 6mm glass for antique mirror panels.
Thickness depends on the size of the panel, the fixing method and where the mirror will be installed. For larger panels, we normally recommend 6mm glass for better strength and stability.
We can also supply the glass with different edge finishes, including polished edges and bevelled edges, depending on the design and where the panels will be fitted.
What antique mirror finishes are available?
We can create a wide range of bespoke antique mirror finishes, from very soft and subtle ageing to heavily distressed mirror effects.
Popular finishes include foxed antique mirror, speckled ageing, tarnished edges, mottled silvering, bronze antique mirrors and more heavily distressed mirror finishes.
Each finish is handmade, so the effect can be adjusted depending on the project.
Can you match a specific antique mirror sample?
Yes, we can work from reference images, existing samples or interior design schemes.
Because antique mirror is handmade, every panel will have natural variation, but we can control the overall tone, level of distressing to match the required look as closely as possible.
For larger or more specific projects, we can produce a sample first for approval.
What information should I provide when ordering?
If you already have measurements, drawings or a panel layout, that is very helpful.
It is useful to know the overall size of the area, the preferred panel sizes, whether the glass is going into joinery, onto a wall, inside a frame, or behind a bar, and whether installation is required.
It also helps to know the style you are aiming for.
If you do not have exact measurements yet, we can also arrange a site survey.
Do you offer installation?
Yes, we can offer installation as part of the project.
Depending on the design and location, antique mirror panels can usually be fixed with mirror adhesive, mirror clips, set into joinery, or fitted into a frame.
We also offer a supply-only service if your own contractor, joiner or installer is fitting the panels.
How much does antique mirror cost?
Every antique mirror project is custom made, so the price depends on the panel sizes, glass type, thickness, level of ageing, layout and installation requirements.
As a rough guide, bespoke antique mirror finishes usually start from around £500 per sqm.
More complex finishes, special glass types, shaped panels, bevelled edges, samples, design work or installation would be priced separately.
Can antique mirror be used in bathrooms or wet areas?
Antique mirror can sometimes be used in bathrooms or moisture-prone areas, but the specification and installation need to be considered carefully.
The back of the glass and the edges must be protected properly, as moisture can damage mirror finishes over time. We always recommend discussing the exact location first so we can advise on the safest approach.
Can antique mirror glass be cut on site?
Yes, but we usually recommend supplying the panels ready cut to size.
On-site cutting is possible, but it should only be done by an experienced glass specialist who understands handmade mirrors. Antique mirror finishes are more delicate than standard mirror glass, so they need careful handling during cutting and installation.
Do you work internationally?
Yes, Bondar Studios works with clients worldwide.
We create bespoke antique mirror panels, verre églomisé, gilded glass and decorative glass finishes for luxury interiors, hotels, restaurants, private residences, retail spaces and commercial projects around the world.
